A $3.5-million donation to the new Oakville hospital is being cele- brated this week. The Oakville Hospital Foundation announced Monday the donation from Oakvilles Betty Birmingham and her late husband, Bruce Birmingham who died in July 2010. It comes not long after founder and president of Mattamy Homes, Peter Gilgan made a $10-million contribution to the new hospital to be built at Dundas Street West and Third Line. The hospital foundation will offi- cially recognize the Birminghams gift at a ceremony to be held at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hos- pital (OTMH) in Parson's Pantry, just off the main lobby, at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16. For more than 20 years, Betty Birmingham, and her late husband Bruce, had been supporters of OTMH, among making other phil- anthropic donations. In fact, the new donation will bring the Birminghams contribu- tion to Oakvilles hospital to more than $8.1 million. Tianna and Stephanie were given the keys to their new homes on Elmwood Road Sunday, during a dedication ceremony, which saw mem- bers of the community from Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr to Oakville Mayor Rob Burton and Habitat for Humanity Halton volunteers celebrate the build of Oakvilles first Habitat for Humanity Halton dwellings. For Tianna, the new home means she no longer has to worry about her nine-year-old daughter, Sierra, being cold at night. Our unit hasnt been very great and actual- ly being able to turn the heat on is something people take for granted. I look forward to put- ting my daughter to bed and her not being cold, Tianna told The Oakville Beaver during Sundays dedication ceremony.
