and then put on a Saturday night perform- ance. That was really good because you went away with the same people with the same interest and you just really had a marvelous time, Johnstone said. The former director Stainton, who ran those music camps, said they really helped build a foundation for the choir. A lot of the people brought friends, they knew each other, they introduced each other and after concerts some of them would go to a pub and get to know each other, he said. He added the camps provided a place for peo- ple to socialize, because during rehearsals there isnt the time to do that. Though hes no longer part of the choir, Stainton said he plans to be in attendance this season. The Christmas concerts will take place Dec. 10 and 11. Friendships helped build solid foundation for choral society Museums fall Jazz Series ends on a warm musical note Another concert season comes to an end, with the Halton Region Museums fall Jazz Series concluding Sunday, Dec. 12. Despite the cold weather outdoors, the series will end with musical notes from a warmer cli- mate, by a Cuban duo and a warm meal. The concert will feature Jane Bunnett and Hilario Dur performing in the Hearth Room of the museums Alexander Barn, located in the Kelso Conservation Area in Milton. The daytime concert will be preceded by a special festive holiday lunch, which begins at 11 a.m. with entertainment. The lunch is an addi- tional $20 to the concert ticket, or complimen- tary to season ticket holders. The lunch will feature a hot meal and musi- cal guests, trumpeter and vocalist Bria Skonberg and guitarist George Grosman. The concert runs 2-4 p.m. at a cost of $20. Bunnett is a multiple Juno Award winner and a specialist in Cuban music. Duris also a Juno Award winner and a music professor at Humber College. Not only is Jane Bunnett an internationally acclaimed musician, she is also a social activist who was recently honoured with an appoint- ment to the Order of Canada, said Steve Baker, Halton Museum Foundation Chair and Jazz Series spokesperson. Janes collaboration with Hilario Durcombines elements of Cuban roots music with traditional contemporary jazz that will warm hearts on even the chilliest of December days. The series is put on by the foundation, an independent fundraising arm, in support of the museums capital renovation campaign. Due to the popularity of the event, people are asked to call to reserve a spot. Call 905-875- 2200, ext. 27 or visit www.halton.ca/museum.
