When an indoor cat scoots past the delivery man, will she make her way back home to you? If she is micro-chipped she has a better than average chance of curl- ing up on your sofa again. Every day the Lost and Found department of the Oakville & Milton Humane Society sees the impor- tance of micro-chip identification for cats and dogsin the happy faces of folks reunited with their family pet. Paula Fleming, Lost and Found co-ordinator with the society remembers a case where an indoor cat from Burlington ended up at a gas station in Milton in under 24 hours. Thanks to a micro-chip, Fleming called the owners, who were shocked and overjoyedthey hadnt even been aware the cat had slipped out the door, and were so happy he had been found. In another case, a black cat from Oakville had been missing for some time. The cat had lost weight since his owner last saw him, his micro-chip confirmed he was in fact the former- ly chubby cat and the owner was delighted to have him back. Micro-chipping involves embed- ding a tiny chip under the skin of the cat or dog. This chip contains valuable owner information which will help the animal return to his owner if lost. On Sunday, Nov. 28 the Oakville & Milton Humane Society will kick off the 2011 Dog Licencing with a micro-chip clinic for dogs and cats at the shelter at 445 Cornwall Rd. The event includes the opportu- nity to purchase your 2011 dog licence at a reduced rate, the first 100 purchasers receive a goodie bag and the opportunity to enter a spe- cial draw. The micro-chip clinic runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on a first come, first-served basis. Humane Society hosting micro-chip clinic
