Some people will remember the ROTC Toronto (Righteously Outrageous Twirling Corp) from last year. This not-for-profit performance-based organization form a modern-day colour guard, twirling flags, spinning rifles, dancing and using other props to create a stunning visual production, choreographed to some of today's hottest sounds. There are two new bands to Oakvilles line- up this year. The first is 150 Hamilton Tiger Band, a 30-member air cadet band, from the John Foote Armouries, downtown Hamilton. Its members practice once a week under the direction of Lieutenant C. Millen. With support from the squadron's Commanding Officer Maj. C. Daharry, the Tiger Band is incredibly active and so hon- ouring the squadron's motto: Active and Eager. This drive and dedication has earned the band bragging rights, as it has been the Cadet Brass Reed Marching Band Champion for Western Ontario for the past five years. The other new band for 2010 is the Filarmonica Marching Band. As the second oldest Portuguese band of Ontario, it began as a small group of enthusiasts who got together in 1968 to participate in a religious feast of Santissima Trinidad. Today it is on its way to celebrating its 43rd anniversary and is still here showcas- ing the talents of wonderful musicians, old and new who always work hard in serving the entire community with musical cul- ture. Now in its 62nd year, the Oakville Santa Claus Parade is a cherished tradition in our Town. The 2010 parade takes place Saturday, Nov. 20, beginning at 9 a.m. The parade will begin at Lakeshore Road and Reynolds Street, travel west on Lakeshore to Kerr Street, head north on Kerr and culminate at Kerr and Stewart streets.
