Commitments are made, then broken. Directives are made, then cancelled. If this is an energy plan, one has to ask who is steering the ship we call Ontario? The problem is not that cancelling the Oakville plant was a bad decision. The bad decision was the Liberal govern- ment's insistence that it be here in the first place and the removal of tools to oppose it. The problem can be traced back to the Green Energy Act and that legislation has Flynn's name on it. McGuinty was very proud of the legisla- tion because it included authority to over- rule all municipal opposition and give the province complete control over power proj- ects. That frightens me. In the Oct. 28 column, Mr. Flynn made reference to a comment by an unnamed individual supposedly with the PC Party in Oakville. He does not say if he per- sonally heard the comment or where it came from or when it was made. Hearsay of an unnamed person with a personal opin- ion is not newsworthy; one wonders why an MPP would include such a reference in a published column. In a free society all individuals are enti- tled to their personal opinions. In the past year in Oakville, many people of all political stripes have had opinions on alternate loca- tions for the power plant. This subject and Mr. Flynns choice to include it in published column indi- cates, at least to me, a sense of desperation. It seems that Flynn is try- ing to blame anyone but himself and his Liberal gov- ernment for the odious Green Energy Act and the ramifications it had on Oakville. Rather than attempting to justify the cancellation of the power plant due to conserva- tion, Flynn should read the major newspapers in the GTA from the past weeks. It seems, without excep- tion, the many articles have all expressed the same con- clusion; the power plant can- cellation was a political deci- sion. The only thing left to dis- cuss is the tab that the tax- payers will have to pick up for the entire fiasco from beginning to end. D. J. ROWLAND, OAKVILLE Continued from page 6 Bring food to Tim Hortons From Nov. 8-14, local Oakville Tim Hortons restau- rants will participate in a food drive in co-operation with Food for Life. Food for Life will collect all donations through the week and deliver the dona- tions to those in need. Customers are asked to fill Tim Hortons brown paper bags that will be handed out at participating Oakville Tim Hortons restaurants, with non-perishable food items and drop them into the food drive bins located inside par- ticipating Tim Hortons stores. At Tim Hortons, we believe that it is important to give back to the communi- ties where we live, work and play, said restaurant owner Geoff Shore. The food drive was creat- ed by local store owners to raise awareness and dona- tions in their local commu- nities.
