27 · Thursday, June 24, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com Bantam A's rally for Classic victory The Oakville bantam AAA A's scored three times with two out in the final inning to steal an 8-7 victory from the Brampton Braves in the championship game of the Whitby Father's Day Classic. Oakville trailed 7-5 heading into the bottom of the seventh and had the bases loaded when the Brampton pitcher picked off the runner for the second out. Oakville's Blake Weston stole second, allowing him to score the tying run when Danny Beaver delivered a two-run single. Beaver stole second and moved up to third on a balk. After Brampton walked back-to-back runners to load the bases, the Braves pitcher was charged with another balk, allowing the winnnig run to score. Oakville had opened the tournament with a 17-7 win over Brampton on the opening night of the tournament. The A's played three times within six hours the following day, beating Markham 16-3 and Newmarket 16-6. In the quarter-finals, Oakville fell behind 6-0 before scoring 10 unanswered runs to win 10-6. In Sunday morning's semifinal, the A's scored eight times in the first inning on their way to a convincing 19-1 victory in three innings. The A's currently sit fourth in Central Ontario Baseball Association league play. Reduce Reuse Recycle www. com Bantam Hawks earn silver at McCauley tourney The Oakville bantam SST Oakville Hawks won four straight games to reach the final of the John McCauley Lacrosse Tournament in Brampton, only to be edged 42 by Orangeville. Orangeville proved to be the only team capable of beating the Hawks. It handed Oakville a 6-1 loss in the opening game of the tournament. The Hawks would rebounded to down Halton Hills 5-3, Peterborough 92 and Six Nations 6-2. Facing the host, Brampton, in the semifinals, Oakville scored a 6-3 victory to assure itself of a medal. Members of the silver medal winning team are: Spencer Clarke, Foster Cuomo, Sam Domachevski, Anthony Drouin, DJ Eckert, Tanner Fabiano, Dalton Follows, Ben Heidecker, Andrew Kew, Quentin Maksimovich, Bryce Mayea, Joe Modzelewski, Josh Morton, Patrick Shea, Jake Smyth, Ryan Sullivan, Mitchell Wales, Lucas Zitmanis, coach Rob MacDougall, assistant coaches Bryan Baker, Jock Dunbar and Peter Follows and managers Lisa Cuomo and Frank Shea.
