Victim was from Oakville Halton Regional Police now know the identity of a man who died in a car crash in Burlington last month. Det.-Const. Greg Cormier of the Collision Reconstruction Unit said they are not releasing the name of the victim, but were able to determine recently, through medical records, that an Oakville resident died in the fiery traffic accident. It occurred in the early hours of Friday, May 21 in the vicinity of 5448 Lakeshore Rd., between Hampton Heath Road and Burloak Drive. Police believe the Hyundai was eastbound on Lakeshore Road when it left the roadway for an unknown reason and struck a tree. The vehicle burst into flames and police could not identify the body found inside. Police say the driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was a 25-year-old Oakville man who was a college student. Cormier said speed was a factor as the car was determined to be travelling "significantly more" than the posted speed limit of 50 km-h. Police are awaiting toxicology test results to determine if the driver was impaired.
