Oakville Gymnastics Club sending 24 athletes to nationals Oakville Gymnastics Club has qualified a record 24 athletes and six coaches for this month's national championships in Kamloops, B.C. Fifteen members of the club's women's gymnastics team will represent Ontario at the nationals, along with one member of the men's team and eight power tumblers. The Canadian Gymnastics Championships is the premier national event within the gymnastics community. All the athletes traveling to B.C. qualified to attend by hitting routines at their winter competitions and, most recently, the provincial championships. OGC chief operating officer Wayne Hussey says the seeds for the success of the club's athletes are sowed at an early age. "It all starts with a solid recreational program that helps develop these future outstanding athletes," Hussey said. Members of OGC's women's gymnastics team headed to Kamloops are Jessica Savona, Jessica Dowling, Sabrina Gill, Mikaela Gerber, Bianca Jordaan, Sylvia Colussi-Pelaez, Jordyn Pedersen, Elise Bolger, Annie Sheridan, Taylor Davison, Sydney Davison, Mariana Colussi-Pelaez, Krishna Yemany, Tedra Bolger and Nikki Paterson. Savona and Dowling finished first and third, respectively, in the top division at the recent provincial championships. Gill had a top10 showing at the recent Pan Pacific Games in Australia, where Gerber had to withdraw because of injury. Jordaan was second at Elite Canada and provincial meets this season, and Colussi-Pelaez won a bronze at provincials. Pedersen is a favourite for gold in the women's novice division after winning both the Elite TEAM ONTARIANS: A large contingent of Oakville Gymnastics Club athletes will represent Team Ontario at the Canada and provincial meets. upcoming national and Eastern Canadian championships.
