The two locals are Shae Invidiata, who will exhibit photography work, and Victoria Pearce, who will exhibit her paintings. "I'm thrilled. This is a very prestigious show so I'm very pleased to be in it," Pearce said of the show. "It's very good exposure because you get gallery owners and people who come from all over to see a very high calibre of artists." Pearce's acrylics-on-canvas paintings often depict a large image of a flower against a sky background. And in the painting there is usually a closeup and an abstraction of the flower image as well. She said her paintings have an energy to which people are often drawn. Invidiata is a social awareness photographer and said her work is typically documentary style, often depicting scenes from second and third-world countries. "I use my work as a tool to educate and to bridge the gap between the worlds and different bodies of people that possibly may never meet." Invidiata travels and works socially in different countries around the world and the pieces in this exhibit will feature work from India. "A cool part of social awareness photography is you really are sharing a piece of your heart," she said. "So it's to communicate that and to allow other people to discover the jewel that India really is in spite of a lot of the stigmas that are around it." A percentage of her sales at the show will go to an orphanage she works at in India. The show runs March 4-7 in the Queen Elizabeth Building at Exhibition Place in Toronto. This is the third year of the show, but the first time at this venue. Tickets cost $12 for adults, $8 for seniors and students and admission is free for children 12 and under. Re-admission is free. For the 19-plus opening night March 4, which runs from 7-10 p.m., tickets cost $25. For more information, visit www.theartistprojecttoronto.com.
