www.oakvillebeaver.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, November 27, 2009 · 32 New director proud of how choir has handled transition Continued from page 31 which will include the popular audience sing-along of familiar carols. Bowser said he has found, and is composing, some unique arrangements of the carols that audiences will enjoy. Pieces will be accompanied by various members of the orchestra, as well as pianist/organist Anne Marie Leonard. "We're going to have lighter music after the heavier first half," he said. "There's going to be songs like White Christmas, Sleigh Ride, Let It Snow and Winter Wonderland. So, some traditional favourites that are toe-tapping and a lot of fun for us and the audience." Bowser said the sing-along portion of the concert will be magical. "I hope they have a reflective satisfaction from the Gloria and are uplifted by the end of this inspiring piece," he said. "But more importantly, with that enthusiasm, we hope they sing along with us in the second half. When you have an orchestra and a choir of 70 people that you are singing along with, it makes a big sound that resonates from the top of your head to your toes and you can't help but feel good." The choir is aiming to make its holiday concerts accessible to everyone by offering free admission to children aged 12 and under. This is a new initiative for the choir, and one that will likely make a difference, Bowser said. "This means single parents, for example, with two or three kids who may not have been able to come as a family before can now do so," he said. "It will also give young people an exposure to different styles or music and to sing along is pretty unique. It is really a family event." The choir will be welcoming new members in the new year. The Oakville Choral Society performs its holiday concert on Friday, Dec. 11 and Saturday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Glen Abbey United Church, 1469 Nottinghill Gate. Tickets cost $25 for adults and $15 for students (ID is required). Children 12 and under will be admitted free. Tickets can be obtained by calling 905-825-0776 or 905827-6129.
