Rain makes for light weekend for A's Soccer academy coaches in town The golfers at the RBC Canadian Open weren't the only ones affected by all the rain last weekend. The Oakville A's also suffered their share of rainouts, with two of their three scheduled Central Ontario Baseball Association Major games postponed. The league's all-star game, slated for Sunday in Burlington, was also washed out. Oakville might have wished the one game it did get in had been rained out as well. The A's took it on the chin Saturday in Milton, falling 9-1. Marc Walton's home run accounted for Oakville's only scoring in the loss. Lou Vassos had two hits for the A's. Julian Richards took the loss on the mound, surrendering nine runs (three earned) in 5.2 innings. Oakville games rained out included the second game of a doubleheader Saturday in Milton and a home contest against Etobicoke Monday. Professional academy coaches from world-class clubs like Chelsea FC, Real Madrid FC and Valencia FC are in Oakville this week providing their sophisticated concepts of player development and coach education to Elite Team Instructional Camps and the International Academy Coaching Convention. The unique initiative, a first for Oakville, is in association with Inside Soccer and is being hosted by the Oakville Soccer Club. The Elite Team Instructional Camps are running this week at Pine Glen Park. The International Academy Coaching Convention will take place Friday from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Pine Glen Soccer Centre.
