Celebrate Ontario 2009 is an $11-million grant program to increase the economic potential of new and existing festivals and events, noting that Ontario's festivals and events are major economic drivers for communities across the province. "The Oakville Waterfront Festival is one of our province's greatest summer events that allows families to enjoy an enormous variety of weekend activities in a beautiful lakeside setting. Our government is pleased to help it grow and expand so that our community can increase its competitive advantage in the tourism market and strengthen its economy," said Flynn. The funding enabled the festival to establish the unique exhibit aimed at promoting involvement in, and recognition of, Canadian music. "The Oakville Waterfront Festival is a key attraction to Oakville and Halton Region and this year's launch of the Great Canadian Music Exhibit provides even more for visitors to see and do," said Halton Region Chair Gary Carr. The exhibit features a number of hands-on activities that showcase Canadian music icons, and encourages involvement in the music industry as a career choice or hobby. The exhibit will be featured again at next year's festival, taking place June 2527, 2010. "Our intent is that this exhibit will expand and morph over the years so that it will remain current with the day's musical happenings, and that it will become a recognized attraction for both musicians and music enthusiasts," said Jill MacInnes, the festival's director of operations and communications. "We have received great support and accolades from the industry including the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (founders of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame), and Metalworks Institute of Sound & Music Production," said MacInnes. The festival is welcoming submissions from corporations with an interest in supporting the arts, to sponsor the exhibit and receive naming rights.
