A's hold on for win over Dundas Golfer Grigor feted by coaches The Oakville A's held off a late comeback attempt by the Dundas Chiefs to pull out a 76 victory in Central Ontario Baseball Association Major play Monday at Oakville Park. The A's jumped out to an early lead, scoring four times in the first inning and twice more in the fourth. Dundas rallied for runs in the sixth and seventh, scored three in the eighth and added one more in the ninth to make it close. Marc Walton earned the mound victory for Oakville, working into the eighth inning and allowing three earned runs. Alex Hawley picked up the save. Carter Buchanan and Conrad Bach led the A's offensive attack with three hits each. Matt Bekar and Bach both drove in two runs. Courtney Morales and Bekar each came up with stellar defensive plays as well. The A's will play a doubleheader Saturday in Milton. The league then takes a break for its all-star game, where Oakville will be heavily represented. Pitchers Gord Robertson and Hawley, infielders Andrew Kotulak, Bach and Buchanan, and outfielder Jeff Jarockis will play in the game, scheduled for a noon start Sunday in Burlington. Oakville's Sarah Grigor earned AllAmerican scholar honours from the National Golf Coaches' Association for the third straight year. In order to earn the scholar honours, players must maintain a 3.50 gradepoint average and compete in two-thirds of their team's competitive rounds. Grigor, going into her senior year at Newberry College in South Carolina, played in 17 rounds. Her low score was an 81 carding in the first round of the Dana Rader Intercollegiate. Grigor's teammate Maria Besio also earned the academic honour. "To have Maria and Sarah make the team is wonderful," said Newberry head women's golf coach Lauren Ressler. "We have had a pattern of producing AllAmerican Scholars and this year was no exception. "Their focus and dedication is clearly infectious as our team achieved a 3.515 GPA as a whole.
