Providing infrastructure for all this development is not cheap with the study noting the growth-related cost for roads alone during the 2009-2018 period totals $489 million. The price tag for storm water management for the same period is also considerable, weighing in at $1.1 million. The establishment of new municipal parking lots during this 10-year period is expected to cost more than $12 million, while the improvement and maintenance of public transit is expected to ring in at more than $52 million. The study said another $19 million will be needed for the vehicles and depots of the public works/parks departments with another $6 million going towards the general government for growth-related studies. In total, the study cites $248.9 million will be needed for growth-related capital costs from 2009-2018. Long term projects the Town expects to fund with development charges include the North Park Quad Arena, Queen Elizabeth Park Community Centre, a new library branch, two new fire stations, additional buses, Kerr Street widening, midtown and QEW crossings, a new north Oakville operations depot, Wyecroft Road expansion and new park development. While providing for the Town's future infrastructure is important, some councillors at the meeting had concerns about raising development charges to pay for it.
