5 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, March 20, 2009 Halton resorts to humour to deliver healthy messages Halton is using humour to get its message out to local residents on how their lifestyle choices affect air quality in the region. The Region recently kicked off its air quality health promotion campaign for 2009 with the release of two one-minute videos, previewed for council's health committee at its last meeting. The light-hearted videos highlight two fictional Halton residents, one addicted to his SUV and the other to electricity. In Nick Goes Nowhere, a compulsive driver -- "Get a car!" he bellows to a cyclist -- gives up his gas guzzler for an energy efficient vehicle and tries out cycling to work. In Joules on Juice, a wasteful energy user learns how to cut down on her energy consumption at home. The Region's health department believes air pollution contributes to 300 premature smog-related deaths in Halton each year, citing statistics from the Ontario Medical Association. The videos will be shown at Halton cinemas and local television networks in the coming months and are also available online at www.halton.ca/airquality. o t-of-T wn Ser vice & Ou rt rpo Ai OAKVILLE UNITED TAXI Ask about our Airport rates Spring has Sprung!
