OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, March 18, 2009 · 26 Two OAK swimmers medal at nationals Zack Chetrat won silver and Tera Van Beilen won medals, leading the Oakville Aquatic Club (OAK) to a 12th-place finish at last week's spring national shortcourse swimming championships in Toronto. All eight of OAK's swimmers at the meet contributed to the club's final points score, each showing well against strong opponents from across the country. "It was an incredibly exciting meet for our swimmers, to say the least," said OAK head coach Alex Wallingford. "Zack's senior leadership was a huge boost to the young kids. He was right there cheering and whistling for the rest of the gang. It was great." Chetrat, 18, won a silver in the 200-metre butterfly event, while 15-year-old Van Beilen earned bronze in the 50m breaststroke. Marni Oldershaw set two national age group records for the 13-14 girls in the 200m and 400m individual medleys, while Annie Harrison broke the national age group record for 13-14 girls' 200m backstroke. Harrison was named the meet's top rookie by Swim Canada. OAK swimmers also set two provincial records. Julie Calvert set a new standard in the 15-18 girls' 200m breaststroke and Chetrat broke the previous mark in the 15-18 boys' 200m butterfly. Erin Assman, Mack Darragh and Curtis Samuel also contributed to OAK's strong showing.
