There is no limit to the number of events in which people may participate. Poems will need to be submitted by the end of February. The amount of time poets will be allowed will depend on the number of participants. Objectionable topics such as support for racism, homophobia, etc. will not be accepted. Full details will be made available closer to April. Poetry can be sumbitted to Elka Enola at ere@sympatico.ca Events that poets can take part in are: · Poetry, Pasta and Pizza Extravaganza: April 1, 6-9 p.m., Boston Pizza. Poetry month will kick off with this celebration of poetry. There will be a buffet at a moderate price. There is no topic for the poetry read this evening so this is a good place for those poems you have that don't fit into the other categories. · Poetry With A Conscience: April 5 from noon to 2 p.m., Moonshine Café. Poems relating to the environment, human rights, war and peace are appropriate topics. No admission charge. · Poetic Relationships: April 12, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Woodside Library. Relationships will be broadly interpreted. It can be a relationship between humans, or between humans and animals, or plants, or the world. No admission charge. · Poetic multiculturalism: April 26, noon2 p.m., Moonshine Café. Poems relating to life in other cultures or the Canadian culture are all appropriate. It can be as a tourist or as an immigrant. No admission charge. Poetry Café Pier Giorgio Di Cicco, second Poet Laureate of Toronto, university professor, author of numerous poetry volumes and fierce advocate for the arts, will be the feature poet at the Poetry Café on Sunday, Feb. 8 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Moonshine Café, 137 Kerr St. The guest poet, Oakville resident Dave Toms, is a drummer, who hopes to pursue his music career full-time. There will also be readings by the organizing poets of the Poetry Café. The event concludes with an open mic. Admission costs $4. While quantities last, those attending will receive a chapbook containing poems read at the event.
