www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday November 26, 2008 - 35 Junior curling teams advance to regionals Four Oakville Curling Club rinks have survived the first round of playdowns on the long road to the national junior championships. Katie Lindsay's rink won the women's A title at last weekend's zone playdowns, held at Weston Golf & Country Club, while Jake Walker's team was victorious on the men's A side. In B competition, Katelyn Waslykw (women's) and Graham Rathwell (men's) won their divisions. The four teams will compete at the regional championships this weekend in Oshawa. Winners there will move on to the provincial championships, scheduled to begin Jan. 7 in Gananoque. Members of Lindsay's rink, coached by John Rudd, are Lauren Waslykw, Gen Bernier and Spencer Anderson. Walker's team also includes Jamie Parker, Kyle Steele and Rob Fry, and is coached by Gord Parker. Katelyn Waslykw's crew features Emilie Metcalfe, Erin Jenkins and Brenda Holloway, and is coached by Rob Holloway. Rathwell's team, coached by Bonnie MacEachern, includes Erik Bocsy, Matt Hardman and Eric Reid. Girls' volleyball programs begin in January Elementary school volleyball seasons end this week, but female players will soon have the opportunity to continue developing their game with the Halton Region Volleyball Club. The club will hold a 10-week instructional program for players between the ages of 9-12, beginning in January. Sessions will be held each Sunday in Burlington, with 45 minutes spent working on skill development and another 45 minutes dedicated to 3-on-3 games. A girls' house league for players ages 13-16 will also begin in January. Games and a half hour of skill instruction will be held each Saturday at Trinity Christian School.
