www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday June 13, 2008 - 51 CFO's Marathon of Golf raised nearly $200,000 T he Community Foundation of Oakville (CFO) held its annual Marathon of Golf last month, marking the 10th anniversary of this unique fundraiser. Net proceeds from the event support the work of the CFO in linking donors with community needs. Each golfer raised pledges of $3,000 or more for the privilege of playing 100 holes of golf over a 12-hour period. T h i s y e a r 's M a r a t h o n raised a total of $195,000, and brings the 10-year fundraising effort to $1.5 million. Following a full day on the course, the golfers retired to the clubhouse for a well- deserved dinner and awards presentation. This year, the Larry and Gerry Wilson Tribute Cup for most funds raised was awarded to Aubrey Baillie, who pledged $35,000 for the cause. A special tribute was given to Bruce Etherington who, in addition to his role as a founding member of the CFO, has chaired the Marathon of Golf for all of its 10year history. The Community Foundation's CEO Rusty Baillie thanked this year's corporate sponsors including Etherington and Vukets, RBC Dominion Securities, London Life Insurance, the Larry and Gerry Wilson Fund, Thompson Wood Page and Co. Investment and MercedesBenz Oakville Autohaus. The Community Foundation of Oakville links community-minded citizens to charitable needs by managing permanent endowed funds and distributing income from those funds to local charities. Since 1994, grants of over $11.5 million have been made to benefit community organizations. In 13 years of operation, the CFO's assets have grown to $35 million, addressing needs in social services, health care, youth, the environment, arts and culture, heritage, education and community development.
