Glen Abbey resident Amber Dinda is taking her very painful brush with cancer and her mom's resultant unexpected death and turning it into Halloween fun to fight back by raising funds for cancer research. The 36-year-old Parish Lane resident will host a fundraising Halloween Spooktacular Carnival to benefit the Canadian Cancer Society on Sunday, Oct. 28 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Activities include a Halloween bouncy house, 40-ft. crawl zone, face painting, balloon animals, games and prizes, concession items (candy apples, popcorn, hotdogs, drinks), a silent auction and more. The event will be held at Frootogo Orchards, 573 Parkside Dr., off Dundas Street, just west of Brant Street, in Waterdown. Cost is $10 per child, $7.50 for each additional sibling which includes three activity tickets, one food item, and one drink per child. The idea for the fundraiser was born out of "The entire ordeal was shocking...I'd like to help find a cure for this awful disease." Amber Dinda, Oakville resident Dinda's mother's death. It was as Dinda sat in a funeral home going over arrangements in the wake of her mom Helena's sudden death from cancer, that Dinda was struck by the words being expressed by funeral home staff -- that 75 per cent of bereaved families find their way to them as a result of a loved one being claimed by cancer. Still reeling in shock and attempting to piece together the tragic whirlwind of events that had led her there, Dinda did put it all together -- and decided she may be able to do some good. Dinda thought to herself ... she operates a children's party business ... just about everyone is touched by cancer ... funds are needed to combat the dreadful disease. After putting heads together with her husband Kinto, Dinda who has two children, Emma who is six, and Keith, three, decided to go for it. Dinda operates Par-T-Perfect, a franchise business that covers Oakville, Burlington and Milton. The company was founded in 1988 by Michelle Gibson in Vancouver, British Columbia. In fact, it wasn't long after Dinda opened her business that her mom, age 60, took ill. Nothing fit me right. Now I feel free! There's nothing I can't accomplish. I like who I see in the mirror. My husband is proud of my accomplishment. My family, friends, and people I haven't seen in awhile are all amazed. They say I look 10 years younger. Some people need help. I did, so I tried Herbal Magic and it works! Nothing else ever has. I thank the staff who walked through this thing with me. They are so considerate and kind. They know their stuff! I like new and improved Irene! I'll never go back to fat.
