Oakville rallied for two runs in its last at-bat to edge the Brampton Blazers 4-3 in Sunday's final of the provincial softball championships, qualifying the Angels for next week's nationals in Manitoba. Taylor Brown delivered the game-winning hit with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, scoring Lauren Lyttle from third base. Earlier in the inning, Nicole Cerpnjak singled home Stephanie Birtles to tie the game, one play after Lauren Goacher's hard-hit grounder up the middle was flagged down by the Brampton shortstop to preserve the Blazers' one-run lead. Brampton, which handed Oakville its only loss in the Angels' 3-1 round-robin showing, jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the title game before the Angels tied it 2-2 with two runs in the fourth. The Blazers pushed the go-ahead run across in the top of the seventh, a lead that was short-lived. There was no shortage of drama in the Angels' semifinal contest either, played earlier on Sunday. Facing the Markham Tigers, who went 4-0 in the other pool, Oakville carried a 4-0 lead into the bottom of the sixth. Markham then scored three runs and had the tying run on third base with one out, but the Angels threw out the tying run at the plate as Oakville catcher Nova Bozinoski was able to hold onto the ball despite a heavy collision with the Tigers runner. The Angels' Alex Sagl then held the Markham bats in check in the seventh, giving Oakville the 4-3 win. Other members of the Ontario champion Angels are Jocelyn Carabott, Jennifer Wilcox, Hilary Dawe and Brittany Parkes. Mark Goacher, Barry Brown and Dan Lyttle coach the team.
