www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday April 6, 2007 - 31 Grand Champions Tri-County title for atom A Rangers Approximately 70 games, 80 practices and 210 days after the first official skate of the year, the Oakville atom A Rangers capped a successful season by winning the Tri-County league championship. Oakville downed Woolwich in a three-game final that saw the road team win each contest, claiming the decisive game 53 in Elmira. The Rangers also won Game 1, 2-1 in St. Jacobs, before Woolwich responded with a 3-1 triumph in Oakville. Theo Lewis, Troy Lacoste, Ben Everett and Erik Ritterhaus scored to give the Rangers a 4-0 lead in the deciding game, but Woolwich countered with three consecutive goals. Victor Christiansen gave the Rangers some breathing room once again with an insurance marker late in the third period, and Oakville goaltender Lukas Marek ensured the lead stood up. Other members of the team, locally sponsored by Canadian Sound, Ogilvy Renault and Trafalgar Ridge Montessori School, are Rudy Gauer, Nicholas Caissie, Adam Power, James Bauer, Christian Hayes, Brad Johnson, Will Santangeli, Tyler Hipple, Tim Molloy, Zach Varao and Brandon Hughes. A's pleased with fundraising effort The Oakville A's major peewee AAA baseball team held a successful fundraiser recently at the Stout Monk Pub, raising money for tournaments and equipment for the upcoming season. Donated items auctioned off included Toronto Raptors, Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Blue Jays and Buffalo Sabres tickets, along with gift certificates and numerous other items provided by local merchants and companies. Manager Ron Belluomini felt the fundraiser exceeded expectations, saying, "It is amazing to me what a great group of people can do together when they put their minds to it." Last year, the team finished among the final four at the provincial playdowns. The A's hope to once again compete for a provincial title and qualify for the Canadian championships in Quebec City this summer.
