Joining Santa Claus will be one of the largest groups in the history of the parade, of floats, bands, and costumed entertainers representing numerous local businesses, service clubs, schools and community groups. This year's theme is Favourite Christmas Stories and the anticipation grows as we hear rumors of some creative and unique entries this year. The Santa Claus Parade demonstrates annually the spirit of com- munity. Nestled at the heart of the parade are the numerous volunteers that give their time each year to bring this important tradition to Oakville. "Volunteers make the parade possible," says Pam Damoff, Chair, Oakville Santa Claus Parade. "Without the people who walk the route as costumed characters or escorts, or assist with parade marshalling and logistics, parade day would simply not happen," adds Damoff. The parade is organized and run by a group of volunteers whose efforts begin early in the spring and cumulates each year on parade day. It's never too late to be apart of this community tradition. The Santa Claus Parade is always looking for volunteers to assist on parade day to ensure the parade runs smoothly. A meeting for volunteers will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at Town Hall in the Cafeteria. Registration begins at 6:45 p.m. High school students will be eligible to receive volunteer hours for their participation. Information about the various volunteer opportunities can be found online at www.oakvillesantaclausparade.ca. Now in its 58th year, the Oakville Santa Claus Parade is a cherished tradition in our Town. The parade takes place Saturday, Nov. 18, beginning at 9 a.m. and will follow a new route. This year's parade will begin at Lakeshore Road and Reynolds, go west on Lakeshore to Kerr Street, north on Kerr and end at Kerr and Stewart Street. -- Submitted by the Oakville Santa Claus Parade Committee.
