www.oakvillebeaver.com The Oakville Beaver, Friday November 3, 2006 - 15 Tenants have yet to survey damage Continued from page 5 Oakville Fire and Halton Police responded to the fire just after 5 p.m. on Monday after receiving a call from a tenant who heard a smoke alarm, Crognale said. The first of seven fire trucks arrived on scene just four and a half minutes after the call was made. The two tenants home during the fire, including the suspect, were already waiting outside. "The fire started in the northwest corner of the home and then spread from there," Crognale said. "On the first floor, it spread to adjacent areas, so there's heavy structural damage in that area and the area slightly surrounding where it originated. "Most of the other damage was heavy set damage. There was heat damage on the upper floors, mostly from soot," he added. "There's a lot of intense heat up there so it'll melt plastic fixtures and things that are easily ignitable." The day after the fire, police detectives and Oakville fire officials found evidence suggesting the fire had been set on purpose, though Payne wouldn't disclose exactly what was found. "There was evidence as well as the physical evidence," he said. "An investigation was conducted by the detectives, who also interviewed witnesses and the man charged." Fevreau was formally charged and held in custody for a bail hearing, and police continue to investigate the scene. "The police are going to take a while investigating this because there are a lot of details," said Crognale. As long as the investigation continues, the tenants can't enter the house to see exactly what damage is done. The landlord is a teacher and his school has offered to donate time to help clean up the home when the time comes. "I know Oakville is a very giving community, it's a great community to live in. If the community could assist in every way it can it would try and make a bad situation better," said McLeod. "I don't know what's going to happen regarding the insurance and everything. We'll have to wait and see." The Halton Regional Police Service is continuing to investigate this incident. Anyone with information related to the matter should contact the Oakville Criminal Investigations Division at 905 825-4777 or 905 634-1831 ext 2215 or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
