Whether your purpose is breakfast, lunch or dinner, the tasty fare served here is perhaps even more enjoyable than it would be elsewhereâ€"dinâ€" ers are treated to a panoramic view of the famous golf course from the main dining area, which overâ€" looks the 18th green. Start this unique experience by taking in the rolling manicured landscape of the site as you stroll up through the parking area. Or, let a convenient shuttle bus ferry you to the picturesque front entrance of the clubhouse, an impressive sight folâ€" lowing a major expansion earlier this year. Once inside, allow yourself to be led to your table by an elegantly attired server. There are no prime seatsâ€"everyone has a spectacular view. The food is a comforting mixture of North American and Continental, and each dish is preâ€" pared and presented with an emphasis on esthetics as well as quality. Led by enthusiastic executive chef James Stewart, who aims to offer "the best food around," the kitchen crew includes ten chef apprentices well versed in all aspects of fine dinâ€" ing. The exciting menu was created by Stewart, who grew up in Oakville and has spent the past 11 years at Glen Abbey, six in his present capacity. Stewart is an accredited ‘chef de cuisine‘â€" one of just 700 in Canada. He also designed the highly efficient layout of the stateâ€"ofâ€"theâ€"art kitchen, which accommodates the Clubhouse‘s two banâ€" quet rooms in addition to the restaurant. The meals are hearty, but designed not to interâ€" fere with the diner‘s golf game. ‘"We prepare all of our sauces ‘a la minute‘ (fresh, as needed), and special requests are never a problem," he promises. Clubhouse manager, Glenn Phillips, says the restaurant has become a hit with many professional athletes who like to relax by spending a day on the links. He hopes more Oakville residents will make it a frequent stop as well. "We want people here to take ownership of this facility. The community is called Glen Abbey, after all," he points out. Breakfast, served from 6 a.m., ranges from light starters such as toasted raisin bread, bage!l with cream cheese or cereal, to freshly baked breakfast pastries. For later in the morning, a toasted western or BLT may fill that hole in one nicely. And for heartier appetites, ten ‘‘Tour Events" are featuredâ€" complete meals such as buttermilk pancakes with eggs, Canadian back bacon, home fried potato, toast and fruit preservesâ€"are sure to stave off preâ€" mature hunger pangs later in the day. Fresh salads include side dishes such as California mixed baby greens tossed in a honey lemon vinaigrette, and mealsâ€"inâ€"one like the warm nigoise salad with grilled medallion of tuna, green beans, red pepper, potato, olives on mixed greens with a gazpacho dressing. Tasty soups and appetizers round out the menu. The service is lowâ€"key yet solicitous, and diners are comfortably seated in large chairs around overâ€" sized tables spaced well apart. Cotton napkins, Royal Doulton china and candlelight in the evening add to the ambiance.
