every minute of their company whether visiting at their homes or welcoming them to hers mrs morley passed away dec 2 following an illness of only two days she was 71 born verna evans daughter of mr and mrs josiah evans claremont she spent all her life in the community with the ex ception of two years at norwick following her marriage mrs morley was a member of the claremont baptist church and a life member of the baptist mission circle she was wellknown and highly respected by everyone in the village while her husband fred was the postmaster at claremont she often assisted with the mail there friends enjoyed stopping by for a chat across the counter she was never too busy to say hello besides her husband she leaves four sons gordon of kitchener joe in ottawa victor of brantford wilfrid in stouffville and two daughters jean mrs harvey mclean prince edward island and gladys mrs george stallan california one son kenneth is deceased there are twenty grand children one brother fred evans lives in claremont there are two sisters zella mrs fred ap- pleton florida and jean mrs cliff pilkey toronto service was held from the mceachnie funeral home pickering dec 5 conducted by rev george davison formerly of claremont and now of melville interment was in claremont union cemetery the pall bearers were four grandchildren keith ronald and danny morley barry stallan and two nephews garry evans and frank morlev kinsmen train best float stouffville the kinsmen club train was judged best overall float in the santa claus parade saturday the runnerup was the entry comprising mem bers of the stouffville missionary church pioneer girls orchard park won the class for schools and second markham baptist church the float best depicting the spirit of christmas pauls all- nations entry was second judges included rev jas carder leda lewis and sharon brazier the success of the parade was due mainly to the work of jack watson tenth line south an estimated 5000 persons lined the main street route thursday december 10 1970 the tribune page 5 horticultural society membership down stouffville the executive of the stouffville horticultural society is concerned over diminishing membership this was revealed in the annual report presented recently bv mrs lillian byer this year the societys 46th enrollment is down 67 from last years 290 in 1956 the membership was 460 with a goal of 500 set for the next season in the directors report written at that time the stouffville organization is one of the few that offers members premiums in books this year a yearbook and plants was pointed out five seasonal flower shows were held along with the annual august special at the august show 30 exhibitors placed 420 entries special gift prizes went to mrs milt storry cultural class mrs gus almstead decorative class mrs jack valleau most points as a new exhibitor and blair housser most points as a junior mrs gordon housser topped the july and august shows and accumulated the most points over the season the society enjoyed four bus trips numerous talks and travellogues and varying entertainment at their meetings a program was provided for the citizcis of park view home in september with trees shrubs petunias and bulbs planted there members also enjoy bowling mondays at 130 pm in the local lanes new members will be more than welcome at any of the societys meetings the report concluded t9t mrs lloyd moyer mildred and dorothy church street were guests saturday of mrs milton bricker and edna toronto dopey played by 13 year old scott mcleod main street east extends an
