the markham township municipal office has been arrested following the discovery of a shortage in tax funds kinnear was picked up by sgt cox and st hood of the markham twp police force and is out on s2000 bail he will appear in court at newmarket on monday first public disclosure of the shortage was made by reeve avilf bearf in his remarks at the inaugural meeting of councii on monday it is believed that tax money from a dozen and a half tax bills was taken amounting to about 2400 kinnear was engaged as a bookkeeper in august but was dismissed in december for inefficiency follow- ing his dismissal the shortage was discovered with the subsequent arrest the township auditors have been called in and have been working on the municipal books for about two weeks in an effort to fully assess
