achievement day in the dept of agriculture board room on tuesday august klh under the direction of the county home economist mrs mabel boygstrom this was the cul mination of the summer pro gram of 4h homemaking club work although quality of vegeta bles was not quite equal to the usual standard because of the prolonged drought during the summer each club member was able to present a very attract ive array of produce from her garden with this she also ex hibited her record book con taining reports of club meet ings and records of planting growth and production of her garden as we as accounts price received by the ontario highways dept was soo000 an undisclosed number of construction firms bid as high as 70000 for the contract contract for the new highway section is yet to be let and the present contract does not include the south side laterals which cannot be laid until the highway is torn up the highway is to be widened on the north side and all pipe lines will be laid on this side of the stouffville horticultural society was held last wednes day in the arena in jown the results were most gratifying with over 459 individual entries placed in the fruit flower and vegetable sections and well over three hundred in atten dance for the display the exhibits themselves brought many comments from visitors who were surprised at the quality of the blooms in a year of such prolonged drought and heat many annual shows were called off this year but the executive determined to hold the show and were really surprised at the quantity and quality of the exhibits judges for the show were mrs colin campbell and mrs easterbrook of lorne park president of the society is mrs w timbers and vicepresidents mrs h dixon and mr a lamb treasurer is mrs h o klinck besides good entries in floral and vegetable classes secretary margery mertens re ported interest in the childrens section and in the baking sew ing and photographic classes an evening program of enter tainment
