asso ciation for the years of s55 and 195c it was decided to sponsor a junior plowing match this year it will be held on the na tional stud farm on saturday september 24 starting at 10 am the purpose pool for township of pickering big machine topples on pickering roadside the possibility of a large out door swimming pool for picker ing township was suggested last saturday at the closing exercises of the water therapy classes for handicapped chil dren the classes were held this summer in the small pri- vate pool of mr and mrs t j wheeler at deckers hill on the brock road seventeen children victims of polio and other crippling dis eases demonstrated the great benefits they have derived from their water exercises and swim ming lessons as far as known all such children in pickering township and ajax and picker ing villages were driven in taxis twice a week from their homes to the wheelers pool many were on crutches or in wheel chairs but in the water aided by an enthusiastic corps of volunteer swimmers their ailments seemed to disappear and they splashed about gaily and made marked progress in their swimming lessons in opening the demonstration lloyd a peters president of the pickering township and village branch of the canadian red cross indicated that an other year the program might be held in a larger pool perhaps at greenwood or some other part of the township
