the best game of the season on saturday night of last week bockoy fans witnessed one of the best games played in the stoutfrille arena this season one could not wish for better hockey than was displayed in the newmarketclipper tussle here the redmen led by their ace trio of gord boniface kus brankston and kenny sinclair proved why they are the worthy holders of number one position in the sr group their club this season appears to be better balanced from the forward line through to the goaitender it would appear that coach herbie cain depends on his big three line to score the goals and his other line to hold the opposition from scorliii whether that is his plan or not it would be my belief that the former leaside pucksters have scored more goals than any other threesome playini hockey in ontario sinclair himself has netted at least four hat tricks not to speak of his many elngle tallies in paying the reported 100 apiece for these stars newmarket has gone all out to bring the senior silverware home it is quite a gamble but so far this season it has paid off jr hockey returns it has been a number of year3 since junior hockey held the sports limelight here in stouffville in the young season he appears to be doing a fine job with the club they have played only two games beating beeton and losing to a powerful collingwood aggregation the team is fast and rugged and should give a good account of itself the admission of unionviue from c to o ranks should produce some good hockey rivalry between the two towns hockey fans win recall such players as bun sellers keith the homesters held the advantage in by far the finest game of hockey staged so far this sea son in the stouffville arena newmarket redmen edged the clippers 65 on saturday night in an actionpacked overtime contest it was one of those games that had everything there were picture passing plays hairraising breakaways some nifty goaltending work and a few fisticuffs to keep things interesting the entire contest had both the home fans and many visiting rooters from newmarket on their feet the sudden climax came in the overtime session when ron scarcello of the redmen bounced the puck off subgoalie terry sye during a wild scram ble around the clipper cage the puck although grabbed by sye had enough momentum to carry it over the line stouff ville tried in vain to count the equalizer but the visitors held the fort ronnie bel was stouffvilles hero scoring two goals in the third period to force the teams into extra time his first tally came at 1010 on passes from crawford and stephenson the attack and literally pinned their rivals in side their own blueline how ever despite the sustained bom bardment which appeared to have the redmen on the ropes kenny sinclair broke free and flipped the puck to boniface who deked stouffville netmin der out of his pads for the first goal of the game four minutes later geo stark lobbed a long shot from the blueline that newmarket netminder cruick- shank fanned on and the puck rolled into tne corner with less than two minutes remaining in the opening session boniface counted his second goal to give the visitors a 21 advantage there was one main outbreak of violence midway through the period involving calhoun of the clippers and ptashnik of the redmen calhoun was the victor as he connected with some solid rights and lefts that dropped his opponent to the ice fans will recall how this same ptashnik was responsible for sending nick bangay to hospital a little more than one year ago with a broken jaw and badly lacerated head he was then
