ginning of their journey they were accompanied y their son dr glen kennedy and his wife as far as edmonton they re turned home by plane dr a c and mrs kennedy then trav elled over the alcan highway to dawson creek from thee on the road is called the alas ka highway to fairbanks al aska it passes through white- horse yukon the distance from dawson creek to fair banks is 1527 miles over this part of the road which was good they travelled leisurely taking one week reasonable accom modation was available for night stops the travellers found whitehorse to be quite a thriving town with many substantial modern buildings it is connected by railway to the port of skagway tourists taking the boat trip up the coast go to whitehorse to spend a night and see this famed mi ning town of the gold rush era fairbanks was found to be a town of good size a bust ling place with several very good hotels and accommodation in them was taxed to the limit fairbanks was the point of de parture by plane for barrow a trip of about three hours barrow a former american army camp is on the arctic ocean well within the arctic circle while the army was at barrow the eskimos earned good money built frame houses every stick of lumber must lie brought in bought electric al appliances etc the settle ment was left pretty flat when the army pulled out however there is now an effort to at tract tourists a small hotel and restaurant have been con structed out of old army build ings the community retains a good school and hospital eski mos run the hotel feed the tourists reindeer steaks and take them on dog sled trips the kennedys enjoyed one of these sled trips while at barrow and also enjoyed the eskimo cooking and reindeer steaks they have a clipping from the newsminer a pa per published at
