orillia club ould be nnuh happiwr in competition with the metropolitan league than in th eastern ontario circuit kroro a fan viewpoint he- feels that a xroup chaure would do much to renew hotkey wo rd also be handy for the club bus to pick up the contingent of barrie players the inclusion of orillia in the metro league would no doubt find olid support here in stonffville they would certainly add some muchneeded color and rivalry to the otherwise weak hockey setup vktkiu ns hktlk in an effort to improve the position of the union vi lie indians softball club coach ernie lemasurier has called on the services of some veteran performers who starred with the team a few years ago last week ihse socalled oldtimers proved they werent entirely washed up as they downed thorn- hill 21 some of the players in the lineup were reg perkins chuck blundell kern blundell owen trunk cliff cox bruce curtis and a number of others it was players like these that always made culonville a chain plonshlp contender in past reasons during the past two or three years coach lemasurier has based his hopes on youth and although it nearly paid off last season in the playoffs thu same team has heen a dis appointment this year perhaps a team based on veterans with a sprinkling of new blood might be the answer to makk a fltksh start those sports enthusiasts who have been attempting to follow the progress of the markham twp girls softball league during the past two or three weeks are undoubtedly confused and rightly so the playoff arrangements have been very con fusing through no fault of the league executive to start the ball rolling stotiffvillc entered the provincial playoffs and the remaining teams were to play a round robin series to make matters worse agincourt pulled out of the group because the league wouldnt allow marion kox to take part in playoff con tests since stouffville has been eliminated from provincial competition agincourt has now made application to reenter the group and has been accepted they will he allowed 10 use three players from their maplewood team ann murdock mavis trunk and joanne woods the setup at the present time is 6touffvlllo and klgin mills will play a bastocthrpe games series while peaches and agincourt do the same the winners will then play oft for the league championship editors mail sports editor tne trrtwix dear str lot week your paper con- 1 ami an article emitted the i marion question and i was j told it implied that marion fox a no legally qualified to play m the league a the rule of the league did contain an item which said no senior play ers allowed jupt how this league governs the statu of classifying a senior player is not known to me but the rule- as iaid down in th womens oftball rules distinctly ay that the status of a player is what ever she plays in any given year namely she could play senior this year and interme diate next year as marion had played no ball at all then she could elect to play intermediate if she wished but the other teams in the league made rules to satisfy themselves and all claimed without anything to i back their mode of thinking that marion was senior whe ther or not all they wished for was to have somebody easy to knock off and that was that as it was with marlon play ing elgin mills defeated agin court midgets by a score of 5 to 1 on one occasion and on the next meet agincourt de feated elgin mills by the same score 5 to 1 without marion elgin mills defeated agincourt 23 to 3 peaches trimmed them 2h to 3 stouffville did likewise marion was put in there on account of the agincourt girls being of very low ages namely 12 13 and 14 and their first year in ball we refused to play without marion at markham as after having marion come to play we could hardly leave her sitting on the bench while we went on with the game and to what could be termed a sure defeat we have no personal grudge against any of the teams they have their opinions and we have ours but as our girls were so young and immature we thought in fairness to the team we should have been al lowed to use her m joynt manager maplewood midgets scotch doubles winners mrs e crossen t left and national exhibition grandstand show featuring roy rogers dale evans trigger and trigger jr after roy and his colorful palomino made their debut before thousands of cheering youngsters the spectators were introduced to the sons of the pioneers a singing troup of radio tv and motion picture fame their first selection was tumbling tumbleweed and this was followed by a number of tumbling acts performed by two or three men on a four hundred foot platform although i was fortunate enough to have a seat only eighteen rows from the track these performers looked like midgets on this giant stage how those people sitting up near the grandstand rafters could appreciate these acts without the aid of binoculars was a puzzle without a doubt these tumbling artists certainly know their business but when such acts are confined to a small scale they cannot be appreciated by ordinary people ed note following the letter received from mr newt joynt agin court coach miss jean rodanz sec of the
