remittances frank m chapman dies in 81st year frank mackenzie chapman of pickering passed away tues day morning in oshawa gen eral hospital in his 81st year the late mr chapman was born in ohio iowa usa son of the late nelson j chapman he came to pickering as a child and the family settled at audlev where he attended the public school which he later taught 1s931s97 he also served on the board of the same school mr chapman has been the audley correspondent for the tribune for a number of years he attended whitby colleg iate and obtained his ba de gree from university of to ronto in lflol later he taught at the old pickering college when it was located in picker ing he then entered the field of journalism and was agricul ture editor on the toronto world for several years he ajso served as editor of the farmers magazine in 190 mr chapman return- ed to the homestead at audley and became known as the ap ple king of pickering he also achieved fame as one of canadas outstanding jersey breeders and grasmere farm beorme known far and wide he was a director of the jersey breeder- association and pres ident of canadian publication the jersey magazine mr chapman joined the ma sonic order in 1905 and was master of doric lodge pick- eriri in 1009 and ddga1 of toronto district k in 1032 he was a former member of hc friends church in picker ing and laic an active mem- r o the pickering united church a lay representative to oshawa presbytery and ser ved on all boards he was a past president of pickering rotary club andser- ed on tir ajix and pickering hospital board he county gathered at shurgain farms maple on saturday may 29th for their annua livestock judaing competition this competition commenced as an annual event about 1915 when j c steckley as agri- cultural representative in york and has continued to the present day at shurain farm the boys judged two classes of dairy cattle and two of swine from there they went to maplewdbd farms for a class of guernseys and from thence to don head and summit farms where they jurtged southdown sheep ab erdeen angus and hereford cattle during the afternoon reasons for placing on four classes were given to the jud ges at the department of agri culture newmarket the competition concluded with a junior farmer lh club award banquet at the king george hotel in newmar ket the banquet was chaired by bldred king
