sharon osullivan of dundas the 10th annual conference of the ontario junior farmers associa tion held in toronto was a great success with some 1210 on hand for the ev ent every one of 13 coun ties in the province was represented along with many districts in north ern ontario one fifth of the enrolment comprised teen- agers still in school three out of five live on the farm whereas others work as typists or clerks in nearby centres discus sions at the big gathering centred around farm top ics which resulted in cer tain recommendations be ing made and presented to the ontario federation of agriculture which succeed ed the junior group us vm mr mac a college- bred turkey at macdoiiald college has all next year to catch up on serious reading for along with 1100 other birds bred at the college he escaped the axe this yuletide season he was saved from the us ual fate of his brethren because the poultry depart ment of mcgill universitys agricultural college is busy developing a mediumsized broadbreasted turkey which can be produced as econ omically as possible needed him for breeding purposes mr mac and his fortunate companions wear redtinted spectacles to prevent them from seeing blood on other turkeys a sight which might provoke mayhem ac cording to prof william maw who is pictured with his prize pupil altona what wilfred crump of leamington ont planned as a surprise for his wife nud three children turned out to be a bit of a shock tor all concerned it all be gan when mr crump de cided to fly to england to surprise his wife for christ mas mrs crump a pretty 27yearold british brun ette had left leamington in september to visit her par ents who live just outside birmingham taking her children with her she ex plained that her mother was quite ill and she felt the visit was necessary after her visit with the family mrs crump had originally planned to return jan 22 but slie became homesick for her husband and booked passage to sail on the fran- conia from liverpool on dec 19 hoping to surprise her husband at the new year meanwhile husband wilfred in leamington had grown homesick for his family and not knowing his wifes plans flew to england and in so doing crossed her path over the atlantic after spending a few days at his parents home mr crump flow to windsor where he la seen above with his wife and family pickering council an application was receiv ed by pickering township council on monday concern ing the establishment of a fresh air camp on the green wood road 2 miles south of no 7 highway the propriet or stated that he wished to erect attended the funeral of a cousin george millard in queensville on saturday the young peoples group of the union sunday school held a skating party at xighs- wanders pond last thursday evening and afterwards enjoy ed a social time at stan thompsons friends will be sorry to hear that mrs norman bunker is suffering from a tad fall and is still confined to bed a number of children of the community attended a party on saturday at lome thompsons the occasion be ing his stli birthday mr and mrs o madill vis ited mr and mrs john pallis- ter on sunday mr pallister just recently fell on the back teps and cracked some ribs mr and mrs wilmot hill and family spent last wednes day with his parents mr and mrs loss hill messrs fred lewis merv bunker harv bunker xorm an xeal and harry blonge at tended a turkey meeting at the king edward hotel on monday as the guests of pur ina feeds some changes in markham officers mi pisgah congratulations are in order to mr and mrs stanley xoble who became he proud par ents of a baby boy on sunday january 10th he was born at the east general hospital in toronto and mother and baby are fine mr and mrs leslie smith and family were sunday vis itors of mr and mrs wesley c gohn at dollard xew years day guests of mr and mrs roy howlett and mrs richard xoble were mr and mrs albert howlett and family and miss edith dice- man of mount albert mr and mrs steve eade and family of vandorf mr and mrs doug las nigh- and mr and mrs leo xiddery of aurora mrs geo xoble and miss may howlett of vandorf mr and mrs bud monkman and family of lansing were sunday dinner sunday school was held at the home of mr and mrs loy carr on friday ev ening january 8th mr can- was reelected as superintend ent with messrs roy leslie and cawronco smith as his ssistants mrs chester miss dorolhy bay- croft and miss isobel cham bers the mt pisgah sunday school held a skating party on the gamble pond wednesday evening january 6th it was very much enjoyed by the young and old alike and hope to have another one soon the gormley wi ladies are having a euchre on friday ev ening january 15th in the home of mrs wc noble sec ond house south of the gorm ley post office lunch will be provided and numerous worth while prizes all are cordially invited the gormley wi ladies have a quilt in at the home of mrs ea smith and would like as many quilters as pos sible any and every day of this week an organization meeting to form a young peoples group was held in ss xo g on sat urday evening january 9th those elected to office to start the group are pres miss dor is chambers vice pres olive cobb sec treas miss lore- li mayes group leaders are first john mulings mission ary miss isobel chambers citizenship lawrence smith literary mrs oda barlow meetings will be held every friday evening in ss xo 6 the christmas meeting of the gormley wj was held in the home of mrs bernard kays on wed dec 30th roll call was answered by child hood memories of christmas with many humourous ones in answer the usual exchange of gifts took place and refresh ments were served by hostes ses by unanimous agreement markham township council have appointed two new mem bers to the township planning board the new representatives who will take office immediately ate messrs rg calvert a res ident of highland park and mr cj laurin who lives at box grove mr calvert was appointed to a two year term and is an architect by profession he graduated from the university of toronto in 1919 and is pres ently employed in his own business mr laurin appointed for a three year term is a former army brlgadeer and president of the rouge valley conserva tion authority a resident of box grove he is presently em ployed with a publishing firm these two gentlemen will be replacing the retiring members of the board namely messrs h maynard and a stagg the other members of the five man planning board are dr d tanner d runmey and reeve alf lemasurier another important change in the composition of the planning board was the ap pointment of a new secretary in the person of the township engineer j howard since the boards inception township clerk c hoover has also acted as secretary of the planning board in suggesting the shift reeve a lemasurier sain that the appointment of mr howard would serve the twofold pur pose of relieving mr hoover of extra duties and also afford the board services of an en gineer at no extra cost to the municipality both dr tan ner chairman of the v board and the two employees con cerned know of the move ad ded reeve lemasurier further in the matter of ap pointments the members made three appointments to the un- ionville community centre mr j brown president of the unionville curling club will represent the curlers trustee d strickland will act as rep resentative of unionville vil lage while mr h maynard will act for the veterans the other members of the board include mr a harrington of the markhamunionville lions club mr wj russell repre senting the hockey players and reeve lemasurier and deputy reeve clark the question of appointing a school attendance pfficer for the coming year has been re ferred to the police committee councillor a lennie and deputy reeve w clark for further study in a report requested by council treasurer d ryder stated that at present the township has a surplus of 4000 however mr ryder stressed that this is not a final figure as certain adjustments have yet to be made mr ry der also reported that the tax arrears are in good shape final details concerning the sale of the old township offices to hc smith of unionville have yet to be completed the matter is now in the hands of the solicitors markham property owners meet jan 19 markham twp property owners assoc is holding a ge neral meeting at cherry hill farm xo 7
