collection will be taken for missions the evening wi met on wednesday evening at the home of mrs c mctaggart mr and mrs d morden were at oakville last saturday afternoon calling on mrs k rankin miss heather thomas of whitby has been visiting her cousin beth hill the community of green wood and kinsale presented mr and mrs elmo disney and family with a silver tea ser vice one night recently as a token of esteem in which they mr and mis ed redshaw claremont visited sunday with mrs frank nokes and boys miss judy abbott uxbridge spent the weekend with miss betty risebrough mr and mrs jim jones vis ited sunday with mr and mrs walter biggs of brooklin several from here attended commencement at uxbridge last week sunday evening visitors with mr and mrs joe jones were mrs george wilson and gord harvey and family on sunday mr and mrs c reesor of toronto visited with her par ents h and mrs shea one day recently the sunday school of st johns church are planning for their annual christmas con cert to be held on friday ev ening december isth there will be a christmas tree and santa will make ins regular vi sit tlie following were winners at the wi weekly euchre which was held on tuesday evening ladies mrs da beer mrs a earthing and mrs c- hodgson genus mr h malcolm mr orvil burton and mr x burton birthday prizes went to mr w carlton and mvs wallace our hockey team has made a good start this year already having played two games in uxbridgeport perry league first defeating port perry in a score of 52 and the second game defeating brooklin to the score of 51 there are eight teams in this league and seem to be quite equal in strength and promise a very good leag ue they play double headers every monday and thursday nights the next game that brougham plays is on decem ber 17 when they play clare mont the wa held their regular meeting on wednesday even ing december 2nd at the home of mrs geo duncan parade a credit to the community boys and their gold rush float received a big hand the santa clans parade in claremont on saturday after noon sponsored by the busin ess mens association was a credit to the community con siderable time and effort had gone into many of the floats and all in allthe parade was an amazing demonstration of community spirit over a thou sand kiddies were treated by santa claus at his specially erected headquarters in the village square and the young firy were handled smoothly and efficiently by members of the association some twenty floats partici pated in the parade headed by the markham girls band and were held they are now liv ing in pickering village imr les devitt of toronto was a visitor with stanley by- ers last saturday afternoon mr and mrs win carroll and mrs fairgrieve of whit by were visitors at the les wilson home last sunday af ternoon miss shiela pegg was home from toronto over the week end with a good attendance the the lines of spectators ap- w si christmas fowl bingo to be held in the claremont legion hall monday dec 14 at 830 pm refreshments to be served sponsored by the north pickering twp legion branch 483 president airs cassie was in the chair the devotional per iod was taken by mrs chas burrows while the program was in charge of mrs h mil ler assisted by mrs knox imrs ritchie and mvs mat thews each giving short read ings also by mrs lackey who rendered a vocal solo night of nights accompanied by mrs miles at the piano also by mrs miles a piano solo as this was the yearly meeting the following officers were el ected for the coming year hon president mrs cassie presid ent mrs n burton vicepres mrs h miller secretary mrs geo willson asst secretary imrs ritchie press secretary mrs matthews treasurer mrs t philips pianist mrs lloyd johnston parsonage committee mrs win ellicott and mrs geo duncan quilt convener mrs matthews card convener mrs cassie a dainty lunch was served iby the hostesses mrs geo dun can and mrs win gray bring ing the evening to a close the wi of brougham gave a very delicious and delightful banquet in honor of the ball team who won the all ontario championship inter d fri day night december 1th mrs jean ellicott president of the institute gave the call for food and all partook of a very delicious supper donald beer acted as master of ceremonies and called upon lloyd johns ton to give a toast to the queen and ed jones for a toast to the oasa which were both very well compos ed geo soup campbell of oshawa past president of the ontario amateur softball as sociation in his very genial andappropriate manner re sponded to the toast the cap tain of the team grant johns- tor who was called on had a jovial little speech in regard to one of their games also robt miller gave a few inter esting highlights of the seas on a short recess was called and the iwys held a short mee ting for next years program win hill was elected as coach and donald beer as manager the public then came in to witness the presentation of the jackets and crests to the team being presented by geo campbell the boys had their pictures taken in all the glo ry of the champioahip swea ters a short movie of the last two game played at brooklin was relayed by robt miller which was enjoyed by all geo todd our reeve was called on for a speech and was very in teresting especially the dona ting of the cheque to the ball team from the council the evening closed with a dance music supplied by biil clark ken pascoe and billie ellicott a dainty lunch was served by the community plauded the originality of ma ny of the entries the judges stand was set up near coop ers store and the following shared this chore of picking the winners mr s spencer mrs mcconnell mr peters mrs sherry geo todd and mrs chas nolan the awards for the floats were given out as follows schools mt zion claremont schools under 25 pupils bal sam commercial bakers ac res costumes womens insti tute gary taylor and shiela mccullough bicycles june benson betty evans carriag es marie draper special jack morgans covered wagon balsam ano mt ziort mr and mrs cecil jones at tended imr and mrs wm mc- nairs golden wedding anniv ersary gathering at the home of mr and mrs stan thomp son at altona last tuesday mr and airs harold brook es of guelph visited last tires- day with mr and mrs frank coultis 51rs sidney knolton of o- shawa spent the weekend with her mother mrs frank dis ney mt zion school was success ful on winning 1st prize on their float at the santa claus parade on sat at claremont and balsam school 1st for the school with less than 2 j pup- so today the american peo ple have a rich pupils for their work mrs wp jones returned home sunday after being aw ay for three weeks visiting re latives at sarnia and toronto at the baptismal service on sunday marilyn dianne and debora ann daughter of mr and mrs orr graham ivan edward son of mr and mrs cecil disney gloria marie and glenn austin twin children of mr and mrs ralph jones were baptised the white gift service will bo hold next sunday at 130 and the candle light service in the evening at 730 the active service class will meet on wednesday night dec 10 in the basement of the church when they will pack the treat for the christ mas tree which will be held friday night dec 18 messrs allan and grant carson attended the turkey supper at brougham on frid ay night for the broughqm baseball team mr and mrs lewis jones attended a dinner saturday night for the hunt club at the home of mr and mrs lome mccoy at brooklin visitors during the week and on sunday at the jordan home were mr and mrs neil weir of bondhead mr and imrs las gallons and family of orangeville and mrs e mills of melville sunday visitors with mr and mrs ralph jones were mrs mingay of markham mrs a rogers of brooklin mrs wm sadler and mr and mrs
