from claremont is to be paved tlus year by ontario ccunty ac cording to a 25mile hard-top- jng program which was sanc tioned by the county last week at a special meeting of the county council last week in whitby members learned that the ontario municipal board jranted its approval to spend ing 100000 on paving and al so were told that the depart ment of highways would pay a 50 per cent subsidy on mulch paving generally considered maintenance but this time con sidered construction the application to the two provincial bodies was made at the june session of the county council at that time a pro posed road budget of 105000 was cut to 315000 by the ont ario department of highways then council members asked permission to carry out a pav ing program this year costing 100000 to be paid by deben ture there was some specula tion at that time that the de partment would not pa3 a sub sidy for mulch paving but it was learned this week that this subsidy would be paid a total of 25 miles will be paved this year since there was enough funds in the 315- 000 budget to pave 52 miles re sims county engineer re ported that it would only take s0s300 to complete the paving job already planned this
