activities were heard from the various count ies haiton simcoe uentworth york peel ontario dufferin and the northern territories the reports included the health programs and recreational fea tures the great need was felt throughout the meeting for better education of the farm people for their federation of agriculture everyone in ont ario county is a member of federation of agriculture u ith the exception of a few who refuse to pay the federa tion levy of their taxes even these people enjoy the high i price of hogs the euible oils restrictions and countless o- ther benefits provided because there is an alert organization mrs weir of the womens division of the ontario federa tion spoke concerning the tendency of groups such as hospitalization farm forums etc to lose their relationship to the federation once the fed eration set them on their feet everyone who enjoys the tre mendous benefits of ontario county medical services should know that federation of agri culture in ontario county is responsible for this hospitali zation plan which cannot be equalled where benefit allow for the dollar are concerned at noon the women joined the men for luncheon served by the simcoe county federa tion the men had spent the morning drafting a constitu tion discussing resolutions and federation problems and were carrying over their un finished business later in the day after lunch mr ec drury spoke to the gathering mr drury who was prime minis ter of the first farmers gov ernment spoke of canadas de velopment relating his remarks mainly to agriculture this fine old gentleman with his heart in canadian farming de plores the declining farm pop ulation the empty farms the useless barns as alarming con ditions and pointed to the dan ger signals in the whole econ omical and social setup he spoke against protective tariffs how they restrict trade and prevent free enterprise he pointed out the good and the evils in unions and com munism how- the theory of each was good but the evils came when too much authority was granted to any one person or small group mr drury spoke words of advice from his thinking to the federation of agriculture he iecls that floor prices are wrong because the natural cor ollary would be ceiling prices lie felt that education was the great necessity because he be lieves that the town is un knowing in its oppression of the farmer the humour the speaker mixed with his words of wisdom made his address most enjoyablv received air wm robinson mp spoke to the meeting taking an optimistic view to the future of agriculture and stressing the effort put into the feder ation of agriculture because he said the federation was one of only three groups who are privileged to meet with the cabinet at ottawa and deserv es and needs the cooperation of the farm population the session then resumed its meeting jointly with dis cussion of membership dis tinction the matter was not settled but more work is nec essary to determine a suitable emblem the secretary mr belyea outlined a pamphlet available on recent activities of the ont ario federation dissatisfaction was expres sed at the manner in which mr gardiner minister of ag riculture at ottawa and other officials quote farm figures and fail to make clear wheth er they speak of gross income or net income it was felt that when errors were made pub licly attention should be drawn to them and corrections made the method of gathering sta tistics was discussed and many felt that the federation should gather statistics for their own use the feeling being that the present way did not give a true picture of agriculture this report of the zone 3 conference is made o let farm folk know what the federa tion is doing for their benefit and to create in the urban folk understanding of the prob lems of agriculture greenwood mss diana mcphait of to ronto was a weekend visitor with her sister mrs e pegg mr saywell was the mini ster last sunday at church and ok his theme the story of the talents which
