located near vivian in whitchurch township while the sap run is ex pected to continue until the middle of april the business i largely depen dent on cool frosty nights and bright sunny days two hundred gallons of syrup per season i con sidered an average yield the sap is gathered in a large steel barrel pulled by either a team of horses or a tractor and is poured into an underground vat and piped into the larg evaporators the sap then goes through a consider able boilinc process ond the syrup is drained off strained and made ready for shipment to local and toronto buverc it takes fifty lewis and harry dzavalg in a letter from mr r shorten a member of last years markham township planning board in which he expressed disappointment in the progress made by the board was read at mondays markham township council meeting by deputyreeve a iemasurier the full text of the letter is published in this issue of the tribune in his tenpage letter mr shorten a resident of harding park subdivision referring to his own term of office stated i venture to predict that the planning board will not have completed its master zoning plan for the whole township before the end of 1051 i say this not because of any lack of effort on the part of the board but by reason of the fact that during my tenure of office at least 00 per cent of the boards time was occupied in dealing with subdivision appli cations and isolated minor real estate transactions which of necessity must come before the board for its consideration i fear that 1953 and subse quent years will bring even more such problems before the board and that even less time can be devoted to active i development of the master plan in presenting the letter mr lemasurier said he felt the contents of this excellent letter can be of invaluable assist ance to this council i am particularly concerned with our future plans and i feel we should discuss the letter and pass its content on to the planning board he contin ued reeve w timbers contend ed that many of the recom mendations contained in the letter were already under consideration by the planning board councillor c hooper i dont agree with a lot that is contained in that letter all its going to do is create dis agreement mr timbers who is coun cils representative on the planning board wo must have confidence in the plann ing board and its members i think its a shame that this board should be criticized this way after the work theyve done he said councillor lemasuriercoun- cll should be able to take some constructive advice no ac tion tvas
