uxbridge on saturday march 1 i and was a very successful event the number of exhibitors showed a substantia increase over last year w t brennand canada de partment of agriculture and mr ken fallis crops seeds and weeds branch were the judges and they both com mented favorably on the num ber and duality of exhibits in the show particular attention was drawn to the high num ber of junior contestants one hundred and seventy- five farmers were present for the afternoon meeting rae ferguson reeve of lxridge welcomed the seed fair to uxbridge he stated that any thing that was good for the farming community was also good for the urban municipal ities in the county les smith president of the ontario county soil and crop improvement association was chairman for the afternoon meeting the highlight of the meet ing was an address bv prof norman thomas soils depart ment oac cuelph prof thomas spoke on soil improve ment and pasture manage ment he stressed the impor tance of keeping up the police force on a basis of efficiency impartiality and strict devotion to duty council declared grave con cern over the steady increase in the township tax rate there has been a substantial increase in police costs over w inch council has had no con trol but members expressed the view in resolution that the increased costs had not resulted in more efficient policing of the township but rather in an alarming lessen ing of public confidence in the force council went or record as viitiuence m tne trtsciencv or impartial devo tion to duty of the present force a- it is presently consti tuted and
