when the ice sudden ly cracked and donna carlin plunged into the cold water the children rushed rem the otner pond to safety but donna johnson unmindful of iter own precarious situation crawled on her township skated on the pond following a lengthy discussion on the public school problem at oak ridges and primary school accommodation generally in the township whitchurch council agreed at their meeting on thurs day evening to recommend a new school be erected on the whit church side of yonge st at oak ridge- this whitchurch school would be an alternative to build ing a iarge addition to the union school located on the king twp side ol the highway a a meeting last week of the whitchurch council along with the inspector mr mailman and members of the school board a new fourroom addition was be lieved necessary to cone with the everincreasing population in this area such an addition it was be lieved would cost some sso000 council on thursday evening when discussing this figure be lieved it much too low and men tioned a cost of over 100000 as nearer the probable cost wei it wouldnt be built for that if we have to keep on follow ing the structures that the dept of education ask for and i think it- time we said no to some of these things declared reeve ivan mclaughlin at the preent lime the oak ridges school is attended by three hundred pupils and this figure it wa- estimated would proper adjustment of section boundaries could be made now some of these trouble- might be avoided sections 0 and 7 were peeificiallv mentioned and the idea of merging these two into an area wa- expressed i dont believe it would be too hard to point out the wisdom of an area to these people- said councillor mecarron councillor mecarron stated that in connection with the oak ridge- situation the department of high ways had always maintained that the union chool was in the wrong place and if the addition required could be placed on the whitchurch side this traffic hazard would be eliminated it wa- tated that i recommendation by arbitration three and a half years ago was to plit the ection at yonge st council agreed along with the treasurer that costs must be kept in mind that the maximum accom modation should be provided for the minimum of cost we dont want to build a monu ment mr crawford said
