community the late doctor and mrs clark purchased the former nelson wagg property a couple of years ago and extensive alterations of the large horse barns and residence have occupied bis time apart from that spent in toronto where he owned an animal hospital he suffered from a heart condition and was obliged to spend several months in bed at home and in the hospital shortly after moving to claremont one son of toronto an artist and a daughter who assist ed her father in his hospital work in toronto besides his wife sur vive the funeral service was held in toronto on wednesday with interment at claremont union cemetery friends will regret to learn that mrs s cook of lansing formerly of claremont had the misfortune to slip on the hardwood floor in her home and break her hip last week she is at present in toronto general hospital and is making satisfactory progress congratulations to mrs j condy and mrs w ward who are celebrating birthdays this week they have lived in the community and been close friends throughout the years the interment of the late mrs id warble fly control program adam spears took place in clare mont union cemetery on monday afternoon from her late home in whitevale she and mr spears were for many years residents of claremont district were well known active members of the bap- cattle owners in the province of ontario have been wej1 pleased with the progress made to date in controlling warble flies in 1952 114 municipalities in the province had passed the bylaw and over half a million cattle were treated in ontario county bylaws to enforce the warble fly control act are now in force in five town ships in 1950 thorah township came under the act with compuls ory treatment of all cattle while mara followed in 1951 three other townships brock reach and scu- gog followed last year and brought the number of townships in the county under the act to five the cattle owners in uxbridge and scott townships fully aware of the benefits to be derived from a program of warble fly control held meetings last week in their i respective areas representatives from all the school sections in those areas were present and can vassers were appointed to obtain signatures for the petition to the township councils it is anticipat ed that these townships will come under the act this year fanners in pickering township organized a meeting at brougham similar plans and meetings have been arranged in durham the two eastern townships of cavan and hope came under the act a year ago and it is anticipat ed that the remaining four town ships will come under the act this year in york georgina and north gwillimbury canvassers have been appointed and it is understood that east gwillimbury and whitchurch will follow suit general pay increases granted pickering township office staff salary increases of almost 5200 in all instances have 1een granted the office stall of pickering town ship the increases followed a pay boost to the road staff who pick ering township best known couples had been separated by the death of mrs adam spears of whitevale it was only in novem ber th3t mr and mrs spears marked their diamond wedding anniversary born in claremont in 1s72 mrs spears the former jessie gibbons was married twenty years later the couple had been residing in whitevale for the past twenty- four years following their mar riage mr and mrs spears farmed on the old spears homestead for thirtysix years the late mrs spears leaves to mourn her passing besides her husband one daughter muriel mrs harold hornshaw of white- mrs vale and one son
