speaker the cannington united church choir provided outstanding musical talent in vocal solo and group singing rev g davison of the baptist church led in prayer the church was filled with wor shippers from claremont and dis trict the entire service was broad cast on the air the church was suitably decorated with autumn fruits vegetables and flowers the recreation committee are holding their halloween party again for the local small fry anil the young at heart we are happy to see so many more of the adults in costume each year as it helps to make the party a success there will be the usual parade starting from the sarco plant at 730 marching down to the community hall where costumes will be judged prizes for young and old movies skits sing songs will be enjoyed candy for the children no admission charge fine of 25 cents for all not in costume on wednesday afternoon oct 15th an unusual golden wedding was celebrated at the queen eliz abeth hospital when relatives and friends numbering around thirty- five gathered in honor of mr and mrs will thompson in a special room provided for the occasion mr and mrs thompson had lived in claremont since that happy event fifty years ago until the past few years when the devoted wife and mother was removed to the hospital and became a bed patient with paralysis another sad feature had been a lengthy illness of an only daughter mrs brown who passed away about three months ago she was devoted to both parents throughout their years of suffering a son alan and his wife and their son and daughterinlaw with mrs iv porter were respon sible for the gathering which will long be remembered by all present a presentation of fifty yellow roses a large quantity of mums and other beautiful flow ers with numerous wedding anni versary cards and other gifts brought beauty and expressions of affection refreshments which in cluded a very special wedding cake made by the daughterinlaw were served those present from clare- mont included mr w thompson rev illackev mr and mrs 11 porter mr w palmer mr and mrs w ward mrs mccullough mrs cooper mrs macdonald mrs burnell mr and mrs m ander son mr and mrs k redshaw and a number of former claremont friends from toronto pickering trailer case adjourned for two weeks a prosecution under the picker ing trailer bylaw which has been the cause of dissension and com ment between the this community over the weekend mr and mrs ross knox and mr and mrs a hardy sjoent the holi day in montreal about thirty members of brougham united congregation attended the anniversary service in claremont on sunday night and enjoyed hearing the rev i e kennedy speak the music was supplied by cannington choir and was enjoyed by all mr and mrs a j gray visited on sunday with mr and mrs r hodgson brougham softball team jour- reyed to hamilton last week for the finals for ontario but were de- leated by a 21 score about fourteen of our ladies journeyed to cherrywood on tues day to attend will be the guest speaker at the afternoon ser vice the music will be supplied by the claremont choir while the home choir will be assisted by a trio at the evening service at 730 oclock rhe weekly and mrs soden pickering prepares for annual nominations and election pickering township council at a special meeting last week prepar ed for the annual nomination and election with the passing of the election bylaw and appointment of deputy returning officers and poll clerks the date for nominations has been set for friday nov 21st with the election if necessary on monday dec 1st court of revision on the assess ment roll will be held on oct 29th and if necessary on oct 30th at the hour of 9 am constable masters was instruct ed to collect the unpaid dog taxes which the assessor reported amounted
