dime secure ly in cardboard as instructed and enclosed it in an envelope address ed to tropical round robin associates guayaquil ecuador south america the result of this activity we trust will be a packet of passion flower seeds the dime is to cover mailing and handling charges after the timeworn formula editors are used to receiving a variety of proposals through their daily mail and usually manage to cultivate a scornful appraisal of them this particular offer however rather appeals to us and a dime isnt too much a gamble the tropical round robin associates are des cribed as modern johnny apple- seed men its a happy thought johnny appleseed is a legendary figure of early american history who used to walk the hills of new england scattering apple seed passion flowers so named be cause of its symbolistic markings the corona representing christs crown of thorns the stamen and pistil the nails of the ijross the five sepals and five petals the ten faithful apostles seem infinitely more exotic than apple trees des pite the latters economic advan tages will they grow in this northern climate we dont know but with the instructions included with every packet of seed we case of enemy air attack if you know a spring where you can get watercress now is the time to hie yourself down to it while the water is cold and fresh you will find the watercress at its best we came across one in pick ering the other day while trying to round up a trout dinner and it was full to the brim with crispy cress usually where you find a spring you find watercress sirens heralded championship through the cooperation of the stouffville fire brigade the fire sirens sounded both in stouffville and markham on saturday night to herald the winning of the senior hockey championship by the stouffville club while some residents were suddenly aroused from their slumbers a great many anticipated the outburst of pent- up enthusiasm which followed the win since there are very strin gent regulations concerning the use of the local siren without the chiefs authority the gesture of the stouffville fire chief and his men in providing this extra flurry to the proceedings was really ap preciated by the hockey club theyre getting better all the time was the comment heard repeated- after pictures were shown at the horticultural meet ing on monday night mr eugene baker mr lloyd
