the bethesda and stouffville telephone company in the rural area east of yonse street from south of richmond hill to just north of aurora as a result of an agreement re cently reached between the two companies under this agreement the bethesda and stouff ville telephone company will purchase the bells claremont exchange while the bell company will pur chase the facilities of the latter company which are connected to the aurora and richmond hill exchanges in a joint statement issued this week the two companies stated that the chancres would be effective after midnight next tuesday march 4 more than 400 telephone subscribers will be af fected in all 200 in claremont and 220 in the area east of yonge street in a letter to its claremont subscribers the bell company points out that since the purchase of the woodbridge and vaughan telephone company on jan uary 1 1951 it has been apparent that the territory couid be better served by one telephone exchange rath er than two as in the past to effect this improvement the exchange has been sold to the bethesdastouffville company which already operates its own exchange there the latter company will announce its future plans shortly meanwhile service will remain as at present the subscribers in the rural area east of yonge street are already served through the bell central of fices in richmond hill and aurora under an agree ment between the two companies after midnight march i the wires and cables providing the connect ions between their telephones and the central offices will also belong to the bell company half will he serv ed through the richmond hill exchange the remainder through aurora a letter to these telephone users from the bell company explains that local rates will conform to those which apply to the bell
