from front page over 100 workers the head office is found in new york city agents are dispursed from the head oilice to cover the entire dominion of canada upon entry into the machine shop of the factory you are met by don hedges a man who holds lown a threefold position of head shipper record keeper and pro duction man as you draw closer to the main production depart ment the hum and roar of drills and lathes begin to echo in your ears these machines are kept under close inspection by the head machinist mr ed boniface although each man is m charge of his own press or lathe in case of any serious breakdown mr boni face is called on to repair the break if any one man is absent another worker in the plant is able to take over the operation of his machine anyone desiring employment at the steam fitting factory starts as an apprentice on one of the lathes or drills under the watchful eye of the head machinist and after six months to a year depending upon his skill the worker reaches top profile- ieney each one of the lathes and drills on the floor cost between s2500 to 3000 apiece sarco has an amazing record of never having any serious injury occur to the workers in the entire ten years of operation the fact is probably due to the immaculate working conditions as well as the lighting and ventilation enjoyed by the workers the aisles are kept free of litter and the massive seven large windows located both in the front and rear of the factory pro vide excellent lighting and venti lation for the employees because of the steel and brick construction of the building the fire hazard is kept to a minimum from the roar of presses and lathes where the interior parts for steam traps are constructed we turn to the testing department where mr roy of claremont places the steam traps under water and steam pressure to insure their perfection prior to shipment every steam trap must go through this inspection before entering the hands of mrs ethel redman who wraps and stamps the finished product for shipment the storage room holds 100000 parts articles of all sizes and shapes stored for emergency use steam fitting parts so small that they are barely visible to the naked eye to steel pipe are all found in this stock room the thermostat department is handled by mrs c valentino and her daughter angelina all thermostats are filled with mineral oil to give them buoyancy in order that they may open and close with the change in temperature at the edge of the plant large stock piles of steam traps are kept in quantity in readiness to be ground and tiled by the lathes and drills these traps have just come from the foundry sarco of canada ltd is a firm that should be indeed congratu lated on their progress during the last ten years under the able direction of superintendent jack mansell the entire building shows efficient handling both inside and out o longer do workers slave in the dark dingy factories as they did in years gone by and thanks to companies such as sarco in claremont the machinist the tester the stock piler and the shipper can boast of a plant that is fit for a king council may regulate culvert installation at pickering twp council meet
