guests of the same group we regret that mr lyman pilkey has been ill during the past week with pneumonia at the home of his sister mrs f pugh mi d arksey who moved into a vacant apartment in the w toiri- linson home last month with his wife and two children from brook- lin has been similarly afflicted we understand we trust they may both have a speedy recovery would it not be worthwhile keeping all the streetlights glow ing until midnight and entirely off during the day we arc all urged to conserve electricity but we know of at ieast one street in this village without a light since halloween though a request for one has been made several times neither is there a sidwalk or a paved road and the walk is rough and dangerous wouldnt equal service for all be good business for the village teacher is busy training her pupils for their christmas entertainment while walking to a neighbours home in north claremont last whi h wu b h town saturday evening mrs clark fell un n oo on the icv road and was unable to rise she was picked up by mr and mrs e baker and rushed to dr tomlinsons office where it was discovered she had severely injured her knee and stretched all of the ligaments of the limb necessitating a cast and being con fined to bed for a few weeks dr clark has recently been released from a rest home in toronto improved in health but still far from being well the sincere s monthly meeting last tuesday evening at the home of mr and mrs e boniface mrs xv wallace and mrs d mcculiough were in charge of the program consisting of the singing of christ mas carols prayer scripture read ing the christmas message gods supreme gift to man and a num ber of short readings and poems by various members the roll was answered by a verse of scripture containing the word righteous mrs w evans favored with an instrumental solo a couple of contests were enjoyed the hostess and two members in charge of the lunch seated all at tables and a bountiful lunch of sandwiches and cake was enjoyed by all the men had an especially active even ing as they spent considerable time digging and pushing cars out of the mud into which they slipp ed by turning aside from the safety wednesday evening dec 6 at the home of the presi dent mrs goo duncan the wor ship service was taken by mrs sheppard the minutes of the previous meeting were read by mrs l matthews in the absence of the secretary mrs geo willson mrs t philip gave a report of the recent bazaar which was very encouraging mrs knox gave an interesting report of the rally which was held at greenwood recently mrs knox who wished to be relieved by her duties as vice president was succeeded by mrs cassie who was elected by acclam ation letters were received from shutins who wished to express their thanks for cards
