largest business in pickering township milk pro- vivwww christmas bingo lucky draw 1st prize rug and 12 other prizes to be held wednesday dec 13 masonic hall claremont sponsored by the canadian legion branch 483 claremont ont bjajajamjm a n h a b township of pickering to the electors t reelect t t deputyreeve voting day december 4th 10 am to 8 pm i as we are again faced with an election to the municipal council for the coming year i am offering my services for reelection to the office of deputy reeve as you will remember i accepted this office after the unfortunate demise of mr frank disney in the ten months since there have been many questions of real importance to come before the council and in all these matters i have endeavored to keep you informed in my reports to the rate payers through the medium of our good local papers this is the first time that this has been clone and i am led to believe that you have appreciated it this has given me a great deal of real insight into the working of the township roads and bridges admin istration as well as in the varied committee work of the county council which spends over 50000 of our money certainly this experience is such as qualifies every good workman for future handling of his active duties i feel therefore that i am prepared to give to the office next year a better service in the discharge of the many duties that arise in our municipal governments as new situations are constantly arising i will endeavor to give to each question my best attention in the main there are several things now prominent ly before the electors and i wish to stress a few things that i feel should be done at once further changes must be made in the adminis tration of the road department of the township i favor the appointment of a road foreman under the road supt an office in the municipal bldg to handle calls from the public at the office to receive all bills and accounts to be presented to the council this would release the road supt for the more pressing administration of general policy and contracts i will move for more and much needed pavement of certain sections of our many roads i believe also that we must do more ditching to keep the water from spoiling the surfaces snow must be removed from the roads with all due haste whether day or night this is important i will insist that some equipment be kept at the south end of the township also stock piles of sand for the icy roads gravel and crushed stone for the local needs all bylaws of the township should be consoli dated and printed in a handy booklet for the use of any ratepayer so desiring the water question is one that has been bandied around from pillartopost long enough and it must be settled just as soon as possible pickering village should have its supply especially since the new high school in which jye are interested both for our young people and because of our financial obligations whilst the demands of that fast growing section west of the village must receive my careful attention i will favor this move just as soon as the engineer will give us a reasonable solution of the matter as for any other questions that arise i reserve the right to use my best judgment and advice in seeking proper solution bearingln mind at all times the limits of the taxpayers pockets who are so vitally interested in making pickering township a good place to live in and build their homes in i realize that my first duty is to see that the people of the township yhether as a householder a manufacturer a businessman or as a farmer or as a professional man that each shall get kindly and fair treatment in any question that affects him thanking you for your kind support of the past and for any assistance you can give me in carrying the duties of this important office with the compli ments of the season i remain cordially yours george t todd
