alex gilbert of kitchener mr s gilbert took over on friday the new owner formerly oper ated a store at elackstock near bowmanville for six years and was also in the grocery business at kitchener for four years he has spent the last five years with a paper house travelling for it coming with him to thornhill will be mrs gilbert and their three children aged one five and eleven years while his plans are somewhat uncertain at the moment mr griffin former reeve of markham township says that he expects to remain in the district it is pos sible he says that he may erect a warehouse for the handling of pratt and lambert paints and varnishes of which he is distributor he has operated his present store for seven years the business which has just been sold has an interesting his tory and is probably the oldest property in the district continu ously occupied for business pur poses the land was bought in 1843 by archibald gallanough and the building erected about that time it was occupied as a general store for many years in 1934 it was sold by a john grice to mr and mrs frank charlton thorn hill post office was at one time located in the southwest corner of the building a site which
