last sunday to spring water park north of barrie mrs mate anderson and mr and mrs earle anderson have been enjoying some holidays during the past week in montreal and ottawa mr and mrs f dolan of rich mond hill visited on sunday with mr and mrs robt jackson and family miss forgie sister of mrs car son is on the sick list miss j pilkev a neighbor to the north is in poor health and mr w thomp son near neighbor to the south of miss forgie fell ami fractured a couple of ribs while mrs brown his daughter who resides with him and never enjoys good health slipped and injured her leg recent ly our sympathy and best wishes are extended to them and any others of the community who are in poor health the ladies auxiliary of the canadian legion held their regular monthly meeting at the home of mrs e towner on wednesday evening august 7th with 19 members present president mrs e j taylor conducted the opening ceremony and carried on with the general procedure of the meeting an invitation was received from the legion to attend their picnio at port bolster on sunday aug 20th and plans were made for a nylon party to be held for mem bers and friends on monday even ing august 28th a social hour was enjoyed by all at the conclu sion of the meeting members win meet at the home of mrs w len- man for their september meeting the goodfellowship class held their august meeting last tuesday evening at the home of mr and mrs w wallace mrs t ham mond and mrs towner were in charge of the program which con sisted of a number of short read ings the main theme being the book of job mrs w evans ang a solo and lunch was served as usual at the close the class com mitted themselves to the task of building shelves in the church kitchen for great convenience in serving of meals and will serve a community supper in the sunday school room on august 31st about which further notice will be given mrs l pugh president and mrs w hill secretary presided during the business period mr and mrs john taylor miss m fitzgibbon mrs t barton and miss l mason were visitors dur ing the past week at tiie home of mr and mrs gerald allnian mr and mis grant taylor and frankie and mr and mrs gordon taylor and family spent sunday at port bolster mr and mrs allen milne of ottawa spent sunday with mr and mrs g altaian and family mr and mis j warden and family spent a week vacationing at long lake gerald allman jr is at goderich spending his vacation miss shirley thompson of tweed is visiting relations here master michael barnes of tor onto is spending a week with gordon and douglas allman mr wm davidson spent a day visiting his friend mr j r rum- ney who is slowiy recovering from a recent operation in toronto we are pleased to see mr rumuey at home and hope being out in the nice weather will do much to improve his health chas cooper left by tca plane on monday on a business trip to calgary and other western points edgar ward has some ten acres of the best corn crop seen any where this year a great many corn fields are not the best but mr wards is really a picture earl beare accompanied by mrs beare and bob forsyth won first prize at the mixed trebles lawn bowling tournament in uxbridge the other night all greens were active mr and mrs loss hill accom panied by mr and mrs wm hicks motored to lockport ny last week where they visited with mr hills sister mrs r xighswander mr and mrs w evans attended the public rally in connection with the worlds christian convention held in queens park last sunday afternoon and youth service of witness at maple leaf gardens in the evening ann barclay have been chosen as the oshawa hospital where she was operated upon last week for a ruptured appendix and is in a rather serious condition mrs w cowie underwent a goitre opera tion in toronto east general hos pital last week mrs g gregg a former member of our community and sister of mrs mcavoy is another person who underwent a serious operation last week in oshawa hospital the sympathy and best wishes of the community for full recovery is extended to each lady the womans missionary society held their august meeting last thursday at the home of mrs w evans with mrs johnson presi dent and mrs beelby assistant secretary in charge the theme the church the body of christ was studied through scripture readings by mrs w palmer mrs condy mrs ward mrs evans mrs carruthers mrs d gregg gave a chapter on how to over come fear from the book lessons on living by albert e cliffe and mrs johnson gave several short passages from high ways of the heart mrs lackie sang fairest lord parents mr and mrs chas burrows and other relatives mrs d ill mairs has been sick during the past week but is some what improved her many friends wish her a speedy recovery the wa of brougham united church met at the home of mrs wm ellicott on wednesday even ing aug 2 mrs albert gray was in charge of the devotional period and mrs lloyd johnston the social program giving a talk on books of the toronto public library which was greatly enjoyed after the meeting mrs ellicott served a dainty lunch congratulations to our newly weds mr and mrs donald dun can who were married on satur day evening in brougham united church the womens institute met tuesday afternoon august 11th mrs lloyd johnston president was in the chair minutes of the last meeting were read by the secretary mrs burton miss grace hamilton of the department staff will conduct a short course in the township hall on october 25th the program citizenship and educa tion was in charge of mrs m annis mrs d beer read a very fitting article on take time to think which was a remjnder to make the best of our time little jean barclay and fay madill sang very sweetly the teddy bears picnic accompanied by mrs j mitchell master john harvey played two selections on the piano very well mrs annis gave some practical ideas which all could follow and very often torget the roll call was a verse on canada the hostesses were mrs d beer mrs cassie mrs l johnston a dainty lunch was served and everyone enjoyed the social hour county of ontario memorial plaque in 1948 a memorial plaque was placed in the court house whitby to the
