ably thats why the beavers looked dead monday night help wanted four coaches to coach house league teams if interested contact sports editor practise was called for last friday night and no coaches turned up to help the kids theres a lot of talent in stouffviue but the rough edges have to be ground off stouffviue girls suffered their second defeat from victoria square last friday night it was a closely played game and the square girls won by only one ran the score being 1110 jean miller and myrtle staley shared pitching duties for the locals on tuesday july 1th the local girls ball team trimmed thornhill team 277 the yonge st team was full of errors and three pitchers failed to hold stouffviue batters the game was played on the diamond at the high school and the rough field brought a lot of grumbles from the visitors aurora juniors too much for monarchs aurora 13 stouffviue 0 those same juniors that beat the intermediates really walloped the monarchs the aurora pitching was shared by j simmons steve andrews and r simmons although the earned run average was really six for aurora they scored most of their runs on errors and bonehead plays boadway and bayes were the local baserunning on stouffvilles part in one innings twelve batters faced suttons pitcher as eight runs scored boadway lasted until the seventh when the stouffviue management drew him and sub- situted bayes both pitchers looked like bigtimers who had been pitching for twenty years sunderland bested by stouffviue again stouffviue 7 sunderland last thursday night was the time and the community park at sunderland was the place the sunderland club seemed to hit miller quite well but couldnt succeed in scoring miller locked good for the beavers striking out ten batters between the two tiger pitchers campbell and farrell only four strikeouts were accounted for l schell leadoff man flied out to the rightfielder in the first however bob hassard the next batter bounced a ball off the rink a good 350 ft away the ball rolled under the rink and bob scampered around with the first run miller and k schell hit safely and earl cook reached first on a fielders choice and an error and two were out cadieux the next batter hit safely but nigh hit into another fielders choice jennings the eighth batter struck out for sunderland two runs were scored off three hits and one error and this made the score three to two for the beavers stouffviue batters faced a new pitcher in the second farrell seemed to do better than campbell had been doing in holding the beavers mcmulien the beaver centrefielder hit safely to start off the innings he was tagged out at third on a slide however the next two stouffviue batters struck out to retire the side sunderland worked another hit and a walk off miller in the second but no runs scored stouffviue added two more in the third off two hits and an error cadieux hit a smashing triple in his turn at bat sunderland got another hit off miller in the third but as before no runs the next three stouffviue batters all grounded out to the shortstop doug bradon in the fourth sunderland got another hit in the fourth but as before no runs were scored remains the same after another week of softball as button ville and unionville continue to burn up the league while agin- and markham hold down third and fourth position peaches and cedar grove are tied for last place but one of these teams has still a fight ing chance for a playoff berth buttonville who have proven themselves the better team for the past few seasons have established something of a record this year in losing only one game that being their first and tying none for a total of 24 points out of a possible 2g unionville have collected 21 to run a close second last week buttonville took both their games downing cedar grove 12 to 10 and hitting peaches for a 15 to 3 setback unionville edged markham 43 in their first encounter and blasted agincourt to the tune of 104 markham moved up the ladder by taking cedar grove in a high scoring exhibition 1311 with only a matter of six or seven games left the boys are now heading down the homestretch in which anything could happen men in a row stouffviue scored another run in the sixth on an error and a nice sacrifice by jennings farrell pitched well enough in the seventh to retire the beaver squad in order in the sutton saw three in a row fall under the count of strike three as earl cook pitched marvelous ball george holburn gave up one hit in the seventh but his mates retired the rest of the beaver batters stouffviue and peaches square off twice here on tuesday and over at unionville on friday evening heres hoping the local supporters get behind their respective clubs and give them the support they
